About the Role
Our team is looking for a World Director to join us. In this role, you will work closely with the project leadership team to ensure that the resulting world embodies the Creative Director’s vision, and that all components are placed in a way that combines into a rich, engaging and social emergent experience. You will also oversee crafting the world of our next Original IP project: the physical shape, the composition of objects, activities, NPCs, and more. All to the service of giving players unique moments they can’t wait to tell their friends about.

Important note: We are ideally wanting this role being under a Fixed Term Employee (FTE) unlimited contract, based in Germany. But we are open to considering Fixed Time Contract (FTC / freelance) as well.
Your Mission
  • Guide the development of the game’s world, with a strong focus on effective and scalable production pipelines.
  • Conceive, evangelize, and oversee rules and metrics for all gameplay spaces, including density, time-between-action, and all aspects to make sure that the world and all the gameplay spaces work flawlessly.
  • Spearhead the level design department, defining cohesive world-building practices, and promoting a design culture that aligns with the project’s creative vision.
  • Collaborate with the creative director and other department leaders (Technical Art and Engineering) to ensure modular, effective and scalable world-building processes that support the gameplay loop.
  • Provide feedback and practical mentorship to foster the growth of team members in world-building and procedural techniques.
  • Establish quality benchmarks for world-building and guide the team in achieving these standards.
Your Skill Tree
  • 10+ years of experience in the game industry, with a proven track record in a lead and/or director role focusing on level design and world-building or similar position.
  • Strong expertise in world-building principles for cooperative action-shooter games, with a demonstrated ability to leverage procedural generation techniques effectively.
  • Proven leadership skills in managing multidisciplinary teams and representing the world-building discipline with stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of player-driven design and how procedural tools can enhance replayability, exploration, and discovery.
  • Proficiency in bridging creative vision with technical implementation, ensuring seamless collaboration across departments.
  • Passionate about gaming, with a keen sense of empathy for players and an understanding of cooperative gameplay dynamics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, particularly in adapting workflows to accommodate procedural tools and creative needs.
 
DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Previous experience with AA/AAA games or live games-as-a-service (GaaS) product.
  • Strong grasp of modern game development processes.
